Day 5 and 6...After Fez we headed east into the desert. The landscape changed dramatically from the green olive tree lined hills as we crossed the snow in the Mid Atlas mountains then descended into the dusty yellow/brown dessert. Just before sunset we arrived at Merzouga where a Land Rover and camels (dromedary) were waiting to take us into one of the most breathtakingly large sand dune environments I've ever seen. After an hour plodding along on my camel Bob Marley and Stephanie on her camel Jimi, we arrived at our luxury tent camp after dark for dinner and stargazing. We were the only clients that night so we had the desert to ourselves. Luckily our king size bed had 7 layers of blankets because it was a frigid February night in the Sahara.
